HUG A HOME – YATE
This December, thanks to COG’s great idea and funding, we were able to reach out to a local care home in Yate, and give all the residents a cozy tartan blanket and a gift to every member of staff.
We chose a large care home called Stanshaws, as Sangeeta, a member of our church is employed by them as a care worker.
Once the blankets had been purchased, and small gifts of scented candles bought for the staff, we had a wrapping session at the hall. It was all hands-on deck, to wrap 33 blankets, write 33 personal Meal a Day Christmas cards for each resident and assemble gift bags for all the staff.
A few days before Christmas, the gifts were delivered.
The feedback from the Care Home was extremely positive. The residents were delighted with their blankets, especially as many of them have no family members so presents are few and far between. The staff were extremely touched that our church recognized the caring work they do every day and the difficult times they have been through.
We were unable to go into the home ourselves, due to covid restrictions, but Sangeeta was able to provide some lovely photos of residents and staff with their gifts, which were shown to our members during the first Sunday service of the New Year.
As a church, we all enjoyed the project, especially being able to help our local community and share God’s love.
Thank you COG!
